The Vidatha Unit of the Ministry of Industry successfully conducted a comprehensive Coconut Value-Added Program at the Coconut Research Institute in Lunuwila. The initiative, aimed at enhancing local entrepreneurship, saw the participation of 30 aspiring entrepreneurs and 2 officials from the Vidatha Unit.
The program focused on innovative methods to maximize the value of coconut products, covering essential areas such as coconut oil extraction, coconut milk packaging, coconut water bottling, coconut paste production, and coconut butter creation. Participants received hands-on training and insights into modern processing techniques, marketing strategies, and quality control measures.
“Today’s program is a vital step in promoting sustainable coconut-based enterprises,” said one of the Vidatha officials. “By equipping entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge, we aim to boost local economies and encourage the use of indigenous resources.”
Attendees expressed their enthusiasm about the training, highlighting the potential for growth in the coconut industry. “This program has opened my eyes to new opportunities,” remarked one participant. “I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned to start my own coconut product line.”
