“Vidatha Hosts Demonstration Workshop for Palmyra-Based Entrepreneurs in Jaffna”.

The Vidatha initiative, in collaboration with the Palmyrah Research Institute, successfully organized a two-day workshop on August 12th and 13th, 2024, focusing on the development of palmyrah-based products. The workshop, held at the Palmyrah Research Institute, provided training to 30 entrepreneurs in the production of palmyrah biscuits and yogurt. Additionally, 40 entrepreneurs were trained in making palmyrah-based soap and facial cream.

The inauguration ceremony, held on August 12th, 2024, was graced by several key officials, including Mr. A. Lakkathas, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Industries, and Mr. Pradeepan, Government Agent. Other distinguished attendees included officials from the Ministry of Industries, Ms. Kalyani, Director of Planning, Ms. Priyadarshika Ruwanpitiya, Chief Accountant, and Ms. Anuluxxi, Project Manager of the Palmyrah Research Institute.

During his address, Mr. A. Lakkathas emphasized the Ministry of Industries’ commitment to supporting entrepreneurs through technology transfer, product development, branding, and labelling. He also highlighted the provision of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and testing certificates, urging entrepreneurs to take full advantage of these opportunities.

Mr. Pradeepan, the Government Agent, lauded the initiative for its potential to encourage entrepreneurs to explore additional by-products, which would not only increase their income but also generate employment and improve living standards
